è’s STEM workforce is critical to our mission of creating life-changing technologies that help people live their best lives. To strengthen our pool of talent in Costa Rica, è announced a new partnership with Rocket Girls, a local nonprofit that aims to introduce young women to careers in STEM through real-world learning opportunities.
“A lot of job opportunities exist here, and there are many opportunities in the medical device industry that may not be readily apparent to girls in school,” said Ana Laura Rodriguez Ramirez, Senior Talent Acquisition Specialist at è.
Rocket Girls provides participants with free training in STEM tools such as data analytics, artificial intelligence, and cybersecurity. They also offer tours of various facilities, such as labs and office spaces, and provide job and internship opportunities. By introducing girls to a wide variety of real-life, hands-on STEM opportunities, the program helps girls of all ages envision what a career in science and technology could look like for them.
"Early exposure to career opportunities and skills training can have a massive impact on a young person’s career trajectory,” said Bryan Quick, Director of Talent Acquisition at è. “Our partnership with Rocket Girls is a testament to our commitment to building a strong, sustainable STEM workforce.”
As one of several companies in the region that specialize in medical devices, technology, and health sciences, è is part of a vibrant STEM ecosystem in Costa Rica. Cultivating and retaining STEM talent is a top priority, especially for this region. In 2022, there were more than 35,000 new STEM jobs added, but a 7% shortage of STEM professionals. è hired more than 1,600 new employees in Costa Rica in 2024, many of whom are engineers, technicians, production supervisors, supply chain and quality professionals.
Engaging Rocket Girls’ network of more than 6,500 women and girls through this strategic partnership is helping inspire the next generation of STEM workers. And this unique partnership — along with the many other innovative workforce development programs we have at è — ensures we have the STEM talent we need to continue our groundbreaking work for years to come.
